GREENVILLE, S.C. — LSU standout Likhaya Dayile wrapped up his 2001 season with a strong showing at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, finishing 44th out of 244 runners Monday morning at Furman Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.
Dayile improved more than 70 spots from a 115th place finish a year. Dayile’s effort is the second highest finish ever by an LSU man at the NCAA Championships.
“I think Likhaya concluded a very good season with today’s effort,” said LSU cross country coach Mark Elliott. “I think he had a very good showing today. This is a very tough field and he held his own.”
Dayile completed the men’s 10-kilometer course in 30 minutes 16 seconds. His finish is the highest by a Tiger since Terry Thornton placed fourth in 1989.
Boaz Chboiywo of Eastern Michigan won the men’s individual NCAA title, completing the 10k course in 28:45. Colorado held off Stanford and Arkansas to win the men’s team title.
