BATON ROUGE — Senior All-American pitcher Britni Sneed received the Premier Student Scholar Award in Sport Studies Thursday night at the annual Joy Kistler Conference opening assembly, sponsored by the LSU kinesiology department.
“Once again, here is another acknowledgment as to how special this young lady is,” said head coach Yvette Girourad. “She does it on the field, in the classroom and in the community as well. We are extremely proud of her.”
Sneed was nominated for the honor based on her grade point average and submitted a resume for review. The faculty awards committee chose Sneed over four other students based on her resume.
Sneed is a two-time Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll selection majoring in kinesiology with a 3.2 grade-point average.
During her junior athletic campaign, Sneed earned first team All-America honors and was named the MVP of the SEC Tournament and NCAA Regional Tournament. She was also the SEC Player of the Year with a record of 36-6 for the season and a 0.66 ERA. Sneed set the SEC and LSU records for strikeouts in a single season with 410.
Sneed returns to the circle for her senior year with the 2002 Tigers on Feb. 8 as LSU hosts the Tiger Classic at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge.
