BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s basketball program will team up with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank for the Lady Tigers’ season opener to collect canned foods to be delivered to the less advantaged in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Any persons bringing 3 canned food products to the Lady Tigers’ season opener against Grambling on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. will be admitted to the game free of charge.

“Allowing fans to gain free admission by contributing to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is a win-win situation,” said coach Sue Gunter. “It is our home opener during the week of Thanksgiving, so we hope that our fans will come out in support of the Lady Tigers and those less fortunate during the holiday season.”

All collected goods will go to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, which serves as a clearinghouse for collecting, storing and distributing food to over 100 member agencies in twelve area parishes.

Thousands of people a day depend upon the Food Bank’s network. In fact, last year the Food Bank distributed 4,178,283 pounds of food to service the elderly, children, those disabled, the abused, others who are ill, the chronic poor and the recently unemployed who are in need of emergency assistance.
