BATON ROUGE — LSU placed 12 players on the Southeastern Conference Women’s Volleyball Academic Honor Roll, it was announced Monday by SEC commissioner Roy Kramer.
The 12 players was the most from any school in the league, marking the third straight year the Tigers have placed the most on the honor roll.
“It just shows what kind of student-athletes we have tried to recruit here and have been successful in doing,” said LSU coach Fran Flory. “It is a tribute to them as people, showing that they are not only first-class athletes on the court, but first-class students off the court.”
A total of 67 student-athletes were garnered the honor. Alabama was close behind LSU with 10 honorees, while Arkansas had seven on the list.
It is the third straight year seniors Meghan Bedford, Lyndsey Benson and Lauren Cuyler have earned the honor. It is the second time on the list for Meagan Davis, Jennifer Hampton and Katie Kubena.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in academic classification; and 3) have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree. The 2001 SEC Women’s Volleyball Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2000-01 academic calendar.
