BATON ROUGE — LSU junior Jennifer Hampton has been named the Southeastern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after leading the Tigers to road wins over Alabama and Auburn this past weekend.
Hampton led the team in kills in each match, registering 13 against the Crimson Tide and 15 against the Tigers. She notched a career-high hitting percentage of .480 at Auburn. Her 12 digs in the Alabama marked her sixth double-double of the season.
The pair of wins helped LSU clinch sole possession of fourth place in the SEC and second in the Western Division. The Tigers, 15-9 overall and 10-5 in the conference, recorded their first 10-win conference season since 1992 and the third most SEC wins in school history.
Hampton is the second LSU player to garner the honor this season as Meagan Davis did so earlier this year. Meghan Bedford was named player of the week once last season.
For the year, she is leading LSU in kills and digs with averages of 3.23 and 3.27, respectively. She also reached the 250-kill and 250-dig plateau for the season this past weekend. It is the third straight year she has hit both.
