Swimming & Diving Teams Ranked in Top 25

BATON ROUGE — The LSU swimming and diving teams are ranked in the first edition of the College Swim Coaches Association of America Top 25 Poll, it was announced this past weekend by the CACAA.

“I am very honored to be ranked in the top 25 this early in the season,” said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana. “We are really coming together right now and getting key contributions from different people.”

The Nov. 1 Top 25 Pre-NCAA Championship Poll ranks the LSU men number 25, and the women are ranked 20(superscript: th). Stanford tops both the men and women’s polls. The LSU women have won five of six meets this season, and the men are 2-2 so far this season. The Tigers also participated at the SEC West Quad Meet at Fayetteville, Ark., two weeks ago and competed against Arkansas, Auburn and Alabama in a meet with three separate events. The meet was significant because the SEC Championships will be held in Fayetteville on Feb. 20-23, 2002.

LSU dropped a decision, 313-284, on Saturday to Alabama at Tuscaloosa. It was the Lady Tigers first loss of the season. The Tigers will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., on Nov. 15-17 for the Nike Cup Invitational.

Other CSCAA poll release dates are Nov. 15, 29, Dec. 13, Jan. 17, 31, Feb. 14, and March 7.
