Kiernan, Fisher Win Doubles Title at LSU Showcase

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Peter Richman fell to Mikael Chkroun of UNO in the finals of the LSU Showcase Draw Sunday, at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.

Richman, a freshman for the Tigers, piled up a 3-1 record over the weekend before losing in the final to Chkroun in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4.

“Peter had a good weekend and did a job of rasing the level of his game,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “He got to play a lot of matches and I think he got a lot out of it.”

Viktor Loven of UNO won the Ranked Player Round Robin play of the LSU Showcase. Loven defeated senior Jesse Smatt of LSU in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, on Sunday to run his overall weekend record to 4-1.

LSU senior Dan Kiernan, who led the Round Robin play coming into Sunday’s action, lost on Sunday to No. 15 Michal Kogan of Tulane, 6-3, 7-5. Kiernan finished the weekend at 3-1.

In the Showcase Doubles Draw, it was an all LSU showdown. Kiernan paired up with sophomore Bryan Fisher to knock off teammates Jason Hazley and Smatt in the Showcase Doubles Draw Final, 8-4.

“We have some things we need to work on before we go on our Christmas break that should prepare us for the dual match season ahead,” Brown said. “The fall has been good preparation for that and we’ve gotten a lot of matches in.”

The Tigers will next be in action this coming weekend at the ITA Rolex Championships in Dallas, Texas.
