Reed Named Biletnikoff Award Semifinalist

BATON ROUGE — LSU wide receiver Josh Reed has been named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club announced on Thursday.

Reed is one of 11 players from across the nation on the list for the award which goes to the nation’s top receiver. Other’s include Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell of Florida, Kelly Campbell of Georgia Tech, Kevin Curtis of Utah State, Lee Evans of Wisconsin, Ashley Lelie of Hawaii, Nakoa McElrath of Washington State, Marquise Walker of Michigan, Kelley Washington of Tennessee and Darius Watts of Marshall.

Reed currently leads the Southeastern Conference and ranks third in the nation with 128.3 receiving yards per contest. Through seven games, Reed has 45 receptions for 898 yards and three touchdowns. Reed opened the season with a school-record six consecutive 100-yard receiving games.

Reed has a season-best 10 receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns in LSU’s win over Mississippi State two weeks ago. Reed recorded a season-best 160 yards in the Tigers’ win over Kentucky.

Reed currently ranks fourth in school history with 2,159 career receiving yards and he’s seventh in LSU history with 118 career receptions. Reed has 13 career receiving TDs, eighth in school history. Reed enters the Alabama contest tied with Wendell Davis for most career 100-yard receiving games in LSU history with 13.

Reed is also 102 yards from becoming only the second receiver in SEC history to have 1,000 receiving yards in more than one season. Last year, Reed recorded 1,127 yards for the Tigers.

The list of 11 Biletnikoff semifinalist will be trimmed to three players on Nov. 14 with the winner being announced on December 6.
