KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The LSU soccer team looks to rebound from Friday’s disappointing 5-0 loss to Georgia on Sunday, as the Tigers face the 19th-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers at 1 p.m. (Central time) in Knoxville, Tenn.
“Tennessee is one of the best teams in the country right now,” said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. “They are a lot better than Georgia, and we can’t have a performance against Tennessee like we did against Georgia. If we let Tennessee get on the scoreboard early, then it will be a long day for us.”
The Tigers head into the Tennessee Soccer Complex with an overall record of 7-5-3 on the season and a 1-4-2 mark in conference play. The Lady Vols enter Sunday’s Southeastern Conference showdown with a 10-4 overall record and a 6-1 mark against conference opponents.
On Friday, Tennessee extended its winning streak to six-straight games with a 3-1 victory over Arkansas. The Lady Vols’ streak includes impressive overtime wins over ninth-ranked Florida (2-1) and Kentucky (1-0). Tennessee knocked off Florida in the first overtime period, while it took the Lady Vols two overtimes against Kentucky.
“We’re going to make some minor adjustments from our last game against Georgia,” Fotopoulos said. “We’re going to allow a lot of our younger players to get some experience and hopefully we can get a good result.”
Tennessee owns a 3-0 lead in the all-time series between the SEC rivals. The Lady Vols have outscored LSU, 11-4, in the three contests and have not allowed a point in Knoxville, Tenn.
In the lone match of the series to take place at the Tennessee Soccer Complex, the Lady Vols defeated LSU, 3-0, in 1998. The game was the first of three scoreless losses for the Tigers. Last season, Tennessee earned a 4-2 victory over LSU in Baton Rouge at the LSU Soccer Complex.
The LSU soccer team looks to earn its first SEC road win of the season on Sunday, as the Tigers do battle with No. 19 Tennessee at 1 p.m. (Central time) in Knoxville, Tenn.
