Soccer Continues Road Swing at UGA, Tennessee

ATHENS, Ga. — The LSU soccer team begins a taxing Southeastern Conference road trip on Friday, as the Tigers head to Athens, Ga., to face the Georgia Lady Bulldogs at 7 p.m.

?This is going to be our toughest trip of the season,? said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. ?Both Georgia and Tennessee are very good teams and we?re going to have to play our best soccer against them this weekend.?

LSU enters Friday?s contest with an overall record of 7-4-3 on the season and a 1-3-2 mark in the SEC. The Tigers ended last weekend?s conference road trip with an 0-1-1 record after battling to a scoreless tie with Alabama and then falling to Auburn, 2-0.

The Lady Bulldogs come into the SEC match-up with a 9-4-1 overall record and a 4-2 mark against conference opponents.

Georgia opened its SEC schedule with three-straight victories before dropping two of its previous three. The Lady Bulldogs earned early conference wins over Alabama (2-1), Auburn (1-0) and Kentucky (1-0) this season, but then fell to both Vanderbilt (1-2) and 16th-ranked Florida (1-4). Georgia?s fourth SEC win was a 1-0 shutout of South Carolina at home.

?The team has been very upbeat lately and we?ve had some good practices,? Fotopoulos said. ?I think that even though last week?s trip wasn?t as successful as we wanted it to be, it will still help us out in the long run.

It was the first SEC trip that a lot of our girls have ever been on, and now they know what to expect.?

On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs welcome LSU to the Georgia Soccer Stadium for only the second time in seven years.

The Tigers have never beaten Georgia and trail the Lady Bulldogs, 0-3, in the all-time series. In last season?s contest, LSU fell a goal shy of tying Georgia in a 3-2 contest at the LSU Soccer Complex in Baton Rouge.

The LSU soccer team looks to earn a vital SEC win on Friday, as the Tigers head to Athens, Ga., to face the Georgia Lady Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
