KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The LSU men’s golf team shot a 12 -over-par 572 on Monday at the 2001 Coca-Cola Tennessee Tournament of Champions to finish tied for seventh place after two rounds at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Tigers shot a 6-over 286 in the first round and then posted an identical score in round two. LSU was led by senior Nathan Goulding on Monday. Goulding, a native of Cohuna, Australia, shot a 3-under 67 in the first round and followed that with a 2-under 68 in the second round. Goulding is one shot behind Alabama’s Nick Rousey for the individual lead. He is looking for his first career win as a Tiger. Goulding’s best finish was a sixth place-tie at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship last year.
Toledo is leading the tournament by seven strokes over host Tennessee.
Auburn, Alabama and College of Charleston round out the top five after two rounds. LSU, the defending tournament champions, is 14 strokes back of Toledo. Toledo shot a 3-under 277 in the first round and then a 1-over 281 in the second.
True freshman Heath West is in 21st place for LSU after shooting a 2-under 72 in the first round and a 1-over 71 in round two for a 3-over 143 total. West is making his third appearance out of four tournaments for LSU this season. Junior John Humphries tied for 36th after shooting a 6-over 146 Monday. Jason Horrell shot an 8-over 148 to place 47th and Garrett Prather finished the day in 71st place with a 17-over 157 total.
The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday at the par-70 Cherokee Country Club.
