Davis Named SEC Volleyball Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Senior middle blocker Meagan Davis has been named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Davis led LSU wins over Ole Miss and Mississippi State during the week as the Tigers extended their home winning streak to seven.

Facing the Rebels, Davis recorded the first triple-double at LSU in over a decade. The Kingwood, Texas, native registered a career-high 20 kills to go along with her 10 digs and team season-high 10 blocks. She also hit .442 on the afternoon.

Against Mississippi State, she played in the first two games as the Tigers built a 2-0 lead before sitting out the third. After dropping game three without her in the line up, Davis was re-inserted and promptly hit for five kills and recorded two blocks to put away the Bulldogs.

She moved into sixth place in school history in total blocks against the Rebels. She has three hitting errors in her last three matches combined and has moved to within 22 kills of becoming just the 11th player in LSU history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau.

The award is the first of its kind for Davis, a two-time All-SEC selection.

It is only the second for an LSU player as Meghan Bedford won the award last season.
