AUBURN, Ala. — The LSU soccer team looks to earn a vital Southeastern Conference win on Sunday, as the Tigers remain on the road to face Western Division rival Auburn at 1 p.m. at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
“It’s been weird lately,” said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. “Our offense is either here, or it’s not here. I think it’s been going in opposites. Whenever our offense is on, our defense is off, and whenever our defense is on, our offense is off. I’m just hoping that we can get both of them to click on Sunday and that we can get a big win on the road.”
LSU heads into Sunday’s key SEC contest with an overall record of 7-3-3 and a 1-2-2 mark in the conference. The Tigers have recorded draws in their previous two games versus SEC opponents and are in the midst of a three-match unbeaten streak.
In last Sunday’s SEC contest, the Tigers finished in a 4-4 stalemate against South Carolina. The four-goal barrage was LSU’s second-highest output of the season and the first SEC draw in school history. On Friday, the Tigers fought to a grueling 0-0 draw against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Auburn Tigers come into the game with a 6-5-1 overall record and a 2-3 mark against SEC opponents. Auburn picked up a huge Western Division victory on Friday in a 1-0 overtime win over Arkansas.
“Auburn has a very tough team this season,” Fotopoulos said. “They are always a hard team to beat when you play them on the road, and they have some seriously talented players. We played a perfect defensive game against them last year and we’re going to have to do the same tomorrow.”
The all-time series between the two SEC Western Division rivals is knotted a 3-3.
LSU was victorious in last season’s contest and earned a 1-0 win at home in the LSU Soccer Complex. The Tigers have never beaten Auburn on the road and the Auburn Tigers own a 3-0 record versus LSU while playing at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
The LSU soccer team will attempt to pick up a critical SEC victory on Sunday as the Tigers face Auburn at 1 p.m. in the Auburn Soccer Complex.
