FORT WORTH, Texas — All three Lady Tiger tennis singles players were defeated in the main draw of the ITA Southwest Region Championships on Friday, while the lone doubles team advanced to the second round on the campus of TCU.
Tami Botts, seeded 12th, won her opening round match over Arkansas’ Iliana Pecheco, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. However, she was upset in the second round by Jenny Langer of SMU, 6-2, 6-2.
Amy McIlhaney dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to seventh-seeded Katrin Gaber of TCU in her first round match. She will play in the consolation draw on Saturday.
Rocio Fantili, the No. 20 seed, was impressive in her first match, beating Danielle Lee of Texas A&M, 6-0, 6-1. But she, like Botts, was unable to carry over the momentum into round two and lost 6-2, 6-0, to Ziva Grasic of Texas.
Botts and McIlhaney did team together to advance in doubles play. The ninth-seeded duo knocked out Marina Gando and Magali Risoleo, 8-3, in their only match of the day. Their round of 32 opponent was not determined at release time.
