Quotes from Coach Saban’s Press Conference

“I don’ feel any different today after watching the film than I did prior to watching it. I said pretty much what I had to say about the game after the game.

“The big question that I have is for everyone is, “What do you learn from an experience like this? That’s for everyone. The coaching staff, players and everyone that should ask themselves what they learned from an experience like this.

“I like the fact that we learned things about how a really good football team, probably one of the best couple of football teams in the country, takes care of business, dominates the game from start to finish and never looks back. That’s what we aspire to be, that’s what we want our football team to be and that’s what we’re working to trying to accomplish and to build.

“I didn’t think that we started the game playing as aggressively as we needed to. I think that when you’re playing against a team like that, the best chance that you have is to play very aggressive. I thought that we were a little passive or tentative early.

“After they scored 21 points, it seemed as if we started to play better. We played with more confidence and we were more aggressive. That helped us to play better.

“They have some awfully good players and they made some good plays. The lessons that we have learned from this experience are those that we will carry forward to help us get better and that will definitely be our focus with the team this week. We will start that today, this morning, today and for the rest of the week.

“We need to give our football team the best opportunity to play the best football that they can play. This ought to be a challenge for us going on the road to play. I really don’t care who we’re playing.

“They have good players and a good, young, athletic quarterback who can make plays. I think that if we don’t get our mind right about how we do things and how we do it for 60 minutes, than we’ll have a problem. Whether it’s how we played in the third quarter against Tennessee or if it’s like we played the first quarter against Florida.

“We need to not have those kinds of spells. We always talk about 60 minutes and that means that we need to play hard for 60 minutes and get things done the right way. That’s what we’re going to try to do.

“From an injury standpoint, we have about five guys who aren’t going to practice today. I think that Ro (Rohan Davey) is probably going to be okay. The MRI didn’t show a problem. He’s not going to practice today, but he should be able to practice tomorrow. Devery Henderson is probably out for this game with an ankle problem and Dwayne Pierce is probably questionable with an ankle problem.

Matt Mauck will not practice today because of a foot injury. Muskingum Barnes will not practice today, but he should be okay too, but it’s hard to tell about those things. That is basically the status of the injuries as I know it right now, although some of the things are going to be determined later on in the week.”
