OXFORD, Miss. — Four players had double-digit kills to pace the LSU volleyball team to a 30-20, 30-27, 30-28, road victory over the Ole Miss Rebels on Sunday afternoon in Oxford.
With its fourth-straight win, LSU improved to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in Southeastern Conference play for the first time since 1992 when the Tigers began 8-1 on their way to a 12-2 record and an NCAA tournament berth. Ole Miss fell to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in league play.
The Tigers remain one game behind SEC West-leading Arkansas, which defeated Mississippi State, 3-0, on Sunday to improve to 6-0 in league play.
Meghan Bedford and Jennifer Hampton and led the Tigers with 14 kills each, while Kyra Lancon added 11 and Meagan Davis swung for 10. Davis’ 10-2/21 performance and .381 attack percentage was a team best.
Hampton led the defensive effort with 15 digs and Bedford and setter Katie Kubena added eight each.
Although out-hit by the Rebels, .259-.254, due to 26 attack errors, the Tigers maintained control of the match thoughout the game.
Kubena set the tone with 45 assists and Hampton added a team-high five service aces.
Ole Miss was led by Elena Garcia, who posted 11 kills in 33 attempts with 12 digs, and Jamie Burns, who had 11 kills in 32 attempts with 10 digs.
LSU returns to action with two mid-week non-conference games against New Orleans on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Rice on Friday at 7 p.m. before traveling to South Carolina for a 1 p.m. SEC match on Sunday.
