STARKVILLE, Miss. — The LSU volleyball team won its third consecutive conference match on Friday night with a 30-24, 30-25, 30-22 win over Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss.

The win improves LSU to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in the Southeastern Conference.

The win also gives the Tigers their best start to the SEC season since 1992, the last time they reached the NCAA Tournament. Mississippi State falls to 6-7 and 1-3 in the league.

“We are very pleased to be off to such a good start in conference play,” said LSU coach Fran Flory. “But we still have a long way to go. We have as good a chance as we have since I have been here of winning the West and we have to keep working hard to do that.”

LSU was led by freshman Kyra Lancon for the second consecutive match. Lancon notched 14 kills en route to a .385 hitting percentage. Meghan Bedford and Meagan Davis also reached double-figures in kills with 12 and 10, respectively.

The Tiger offense was clicking as recorded a .316 hitting percentage on the night. Setter Katie Kubena directed the offense with 43 assists in just three games.

Defensively, LSU was able to shut down the Bulldog attack, holding it to just 32 kills and a .071 hitting percentage. Jennifer Rousey’s nine kills led Mississippi State.

Davis and Bedford did much of the damage at the net with 11 blocks between them. Backing them up were Jenny Greco and Jennifer Hampton who had 15 and 12 digs, respectively. Lyndsey Benson was also in double-figures with 10.

All three games started off close before LSU would use mid-game rallies to take a lead it would not relinquish.
