BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team was ranked sixth in the AVCA South Region, it was announced Tuesday in the first edition of the regional poll this season.
The ranking is the highest for LSU (6-5, 3-1 SEC) since Fran Flory became the head coach in 1998.
The Tigers were fifth among SEC teams, behind Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas and Kentucky. Western Kentucky was ranked fourth.
Alabama, which LSU beat on Sunday 3-2, is the only other conference school in the top 10. The Crimson Tide is seventh. UL-Lafayette, another Tiger victim this season is ranked ninth.
LSU returns to action on Friday when it travels to Starkville, Miss. for a conference battle with Mississippi State.
