Faulk Named LSWA Defensive Player of the Week

RUSTON, La. — The Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association tabbed LSU linebacker Trev Faulk as the defensive player of the week and Tulane running back Mewelde Moore as the offensive player of the week for their performances in their respective team’s games over the weekend.

LSU linebacker Trev Faulk helped the Tiger defense hold Travis Stephens, the SEC’s leading rusher in check to 95 yards on 34 carries, just 2.8 yards per carry.

The junior from Lafayette, La. recorded 18 tackles including 12 solo stops against Tennessee. Faulk also had one tackle for a two-yard loss.

Faulk is the first LSU defensive player to earn the weekly LSWA honors on the season.

Moore led Tulane with a career-high 201 yards on 25 carries as the Green Wave posted a 41-7 win over Southern.

Moore is the first Green Wave running back to post 200-plus yards since David Abercrombie set the school record with 246 yards in 1970. The sophomore from Baton Rouge posted the fourth highest single game rushing total and also tied the second best all-purpose yardage mark of 271 in a single game. The game was Moore’s fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season and ninth of his career, second all-time at Tulane.

The nominees for the weekly award are made by the sports information directors at the state’s football playing institutions and then voted on by a panel of LSWA members.

Other defensive players nominated included: Louisiana-Lafayette cornerback Charles Tillman, Louisiana Tech linebacker Gerome Wallace and Tulane defensive back Lynaris Elpheage.

Other offensive players nominated include: Louisiana-Lafayette wide receiver Nick Dugas, LSU quarterback Rohan Davey, Louisiana Tech quarterback Luke McCown.
