KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — On its first Gameday in three weeks, the No. 14 LSU football team returns to the gridiron to face the seventh-ranked Tennessee Volunteers in the first road contest of the 2001 season. The national powerhouses clash on ESPN at 6:45 p.m. CDT on Saturday.
Listen the the pregame show live on LSUsports.net, as well as the call of the game by the “Voice of the Tigers” Jim Hawthorne and Doug Moreau beginning at 5:15 p.m. CDT. The 1 1/2 hour postgame show follows.
The Tigers (2-0, 0-0 SEC) enter the contest as a 10-point underdog to the battle-tested Volunteers (2-0, 1-0 SEC), who have defeated Syracuse (33-9) and Arkansas (13-3). However, Tennessee has also had 21 days away from the field, and the game could prove to be a little messy.
LSU will attempt to improve upon its 1-3 road record under second-year head coach Nick Saban (not including bowl games), while Tennessee holds a commanding 18-4-3 lead in the all-time series.
LSU defeated Tennessee, 38-31, in overtime during the 2000 season, when starting quarterback Rohan Davey hit tight end Robert Royal for a 25-yard touchdown on the first play of the extra time.
