LAS VEGAS — Four members of the LSU women’s tennis team will kick off their fall seasons on Friday, as the Lady Tigers compete in the UNLV Invitational at the Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev.
“I’m just excited to get this season started,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “We have a lot of experience on the team this year and we’re looking forward to playing against some good competition this weekend.”
LSU’s Tami Botts, Rocio Fantilli, Amanda Mang and Perri Budd, will be competing for the Lady Tigers in the three-day tournament that begins on Friday at 9 a.m. The four LSU players will face top members of Oklahoma State, Minnesota and the hometown favorite UNLV Rebels.
Botts and Fantilli will play in the top flight of competition, which consists of both the No. 1 and No. 2 draws of players. Botts, the Lady Tigers’ senior from Ashland, Ore., finished the 2000-01 season with an overall record of 19-18. LSU’s sophomore sensation, Fantilli, ended her freshman campaign with an 8-14 record while playing in the No. 2 singles position.
Lady Tiger freshmen, Mang and Budd, make their LSU debuts on Friday at the UNLV Invitational. Mang, the Lady Tigers’ highly-touted recruit from Chattahoochie High School in Atlanta, Ga., will play in the No. 3 and No. 4 draw, while Budd, LSU’s talented newcomer from New Orleans, La., is scheduled to compete in the No. 5 and No. 6 draw.
