Peel, Sneed Invited to National Team Camp

BATON ROUGE — LSU softball senior pitcher Britni Sneed and senior outfielder Trena Peel were selected by the Amateur Softball Association to participate in the USA Softball Women’s National Team Camp, Sept. 27-30 at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. Sneed and Peel are two of the nation’s top 52 women’s fast pitch players to receive this opportunity.

Sneed and Peel were each members of USA Softball teams this summer and led the 2001 LSU Tigers to their first ever Women’s College World Series appearance and a third place final ranking last season.

Sneed finished the season with a 0.66 ERA and a record of 36-6 to earn her the accolade of First-Team All American. She also set the Southeastern Conference record for single-season strikeouts with 410.

Peel was second on the team with a batting average of .337 and nine home runs. She was named to the All-South Region and All-SEC teams.

USA Softball will select a core group of athletes to return to the 2002 National Team Camp in May and will also select a team to represent the USA at the 2002 South Pacific Classic in Perth, Australia.

The players invited to the September camp are a combination of 2000 Olympic gold medal winners, the two USA Softball teams that were fielded in 2001 (USA Red and USA Blue) and other top players from across the country.

USA Softball Women’s National Teams have been among the most dominating of any sports team in history.
