Over 2,000 new cancer patients are seen each year by members of the Ochsner Cancer Institute in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Their diagnoses comprise virtually every known type of cancer. Because Ochsner is dedicated to research and education, as well as the highest of patient care, cancer patients may benefit from innovative therapies that Ochsner offers sooner than at other institutions in our region. Currently, in Baton Rouge, over 65 clinical trials are in progress at Ochsner Clinic Baton Rouge, including a number of trials for prevention of breast and prostate cancers.

Ochsner was designated as a Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) by the National Cancer Institute in 1983. CCOP is designated by the NCI for institutions that are coordinating and bringing clinical research to the communities they serve.

The Academic Center for Athletes, located in the Old Gym Armory, is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation that will expand the facility from 10,000 square feet to 54,000 square feet. The renovation will include the adding of new computers and computer labs, study room and classrooms, and will provide an additional study area for specialized learning. The renovation will also include a 1,000-seat auditorium to be used by the entire campus for presentations and lectures.
