BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team is set to host the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns on Sunday as the Tigers attempt to win their seventh-straight contest against an in-state rival at 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.

“This is going to be a big game,” said LSU head coach George Fotopoulos. “Every match is huge for us this season and we’re going to have to be at the top of our game against Lafayette (Louisiana). They have a very good team and we can’t take them lightly at all.”

The Tigers enter Sunday’s contest with a 1-1 overall record and an 0-1 mark in the Southeastern Conference. Lousiana-Lafayette heads into the match with an overall record of 1-2 and the Ragin’ Cajuns will be playing in their fourth-straight road game of the season.

LSU looks to rebound versus Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday after the Tigers dropped their SEC opener against the 16th-ranked Florida Gators on Friday.

The Gators finally broke through LSU’s commanding defense for three goals in the final 46 minutes of play to win 3-0.

The Tigers’ first victory of the season came against McNeese State in the home opener on Aug. 31. With a dominating 5-0 win, LSU earned its fourth-straight, season-opening victory and its sixth-straight win versus a Louisiana school.

Louisiana-Lafayette recorded its lone victory of the young season against the University of Jacksonville. The Ragin’ Cajuns played stellar defense in the contest and earned a 1-0 win at a neutral site in Mobile, Ala.

The Ragin’ Cajuns’ two losses of the season came against Butler and Southeastern Louisiana. In the season opener, Louisiana-Lafayette fell to an 0-1 record with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss against Butler in overtime.

Southeastern Louisiana earned a 3-1 victory over the Ragin’ Cajuns in their most recent game.

The two Louisiana rivals do battle for only the second time in history on Sunday as the Tigers were victorious in the first contest of the series last season. On the road, LSU earned a 4-0 win in the game at Moore Park in Carencro, La.
