BATON ROUGE — After a week of LSU student season football ticket sales, approximately 900 ticket books remain for the 2001 season, the LSU Ticket Office announced after business hours on Wednesday.
Wednesday was the final day that tickets were sold exclusively to those students who reserved season tickets in the registration process via REGGIE/PAWS.
Beginning Thursday at 8 a.m., the remaining 900 tickets will go on sale to any LSU student with a valid LSU Student ID who has yet to purchase season football tickets.
At 8 p.m. on Wednesday, just after the ticket office closed for the day, a group of die-hard students began to line up to wait overnight to be the first to buy the remaining tickets.
Over the first three days of the week, LSU students have waited in lines as long as eight hours to purchase tickets. The early start of the football season (Sept. 1) and the uncharacteristically late start of classes (Aug. 27) left thousands of students who arrived over the weekend for the semester scrambling to get in line.
A record number — more than 62,600 — of 2001 football season tickets were sold to the general public earlier this summer, with an additional 15,000 already sold to the LSU student body, faculty and staff.
LSU opens the 2001 football season on Saturday, Sept.1, at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium against Tulane.
