BATON ROUGE — The LSU volleyball team continued its preparation for Friday’s season opener against Tulane with an intra-squad scrimmage at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Saturday night.
The Tigers used the new collegiate scoring format for all three games they played. College volleyball will use a rally scoring system (no side outs, a point is scored on every play) and play games to 30 instead of 15.
“I thought we did a lot of good things tonight,” said LSU coach Fran Flory. “It was a great opportunity for us to play the new rally scoring system in a game-like setting. I think we did nice job making the adjustment.”
Five freshman received their first taste of collegiate volleyball in the scrimmage: Beth Cowley, Lena Davis, Blaise DeRouen, Regan Hood and Rachel Pittman.
Senior Meagan “Snoop” Davis along with juniors Lauren Cuyler and Rachel Vogt were introduced as the team’s co-captains at the end of the night.
“I think our captains was an easy choice for the team to make. Snoop was a captain last year and Cuyler and Rachel were our leaders all through the offseason,” Flory said.
LSU begins the regular season against Tulane in the Sugar Bowl Classic in New Orleans this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
