BATON ROUGE — LSU began its preparations for Tulane on Friday as the Tigers worked out for nearly two hours at the LSU practice facility. LSU will practice against on Saturday at 12:20 p.m., followed by a day off on Sunday.
School starts on the LSU campus on Monday and the Tigers will be their game-week practice routine with a 3 p.m. session. On Friday, the Tigers spent the majority of practice working on different team situations. LSU also spent time working on different phases of the special teams.
“It was a typical Monday preparation for Tulane today,” LSU coach Nick Saban said of his team’s practice on Friday. “We won’t final our preparations for Tulane until after their game on Saturday. We want to see if there are any significant differences in what they (Tulane) will do on special teams, offensively or defensively.”
Saban noted that backup redshirt freshman linebacker Lionel Turner will be out of action for the next two weeks after undergoing minor knee surgery this week.
Saban also said that there have not been any significant changes on the depth chart and that punters Donnie Jones and Ryan Miles are still even in the battle for starting punting duties. Saban also noted that backup quarterbacks Matt Mauck and Marcus Randall are “neck-in-neck in the quarterback situation. There’s not a hill of beans difference between them.”
LSU opens its 108th season of football on September 1 when they play host to Tulane at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
