BATON ROUGE — LSU continued practice on Monday as the Tigers worked out for just over two hours at the LSU practice facility.
LSU had another practice on Monday night, which will be followed by a single-session on Tuesday. LSU will have its second and final scrimmage of the fall on Wednesday night in Tiger Stadium.
On Monday, the Tigers spent the first portion of practice going through individual drills, followed by 7-on-7 drills. LSU also spent time working on the special teams.
“We had a good practice this morning,” LSU coach Nick Saban said. “We keep covering different situations out there. This morning it was inside the 10, goal line, two-point plays, and how we adapt and adjust to that.”
Saban also announced that senior center Jason Underwood has transferred to Tennessee-Martin.
“The situation there was he had two ACL surgeries on his knee, and our medical people here were reluctant to pass him at this point in time relative to where he was with the injury,” Saban said. “They didn’t want to put him on the field because they though the would be at risk.
“He wanted to go somewhere and have an opportunity to finish his career this year. He made the decision to do that. He is a fine young man who represented this program extremely well while he was here. If there is anybody I would like my son to grow up like, it would be Jason Underwood. He was a good student, a hard worker and an over-achieving guy. He will be very successful in life, and I am very sorry he is not going to finish his career here.”
LSU opens its season on Saturday, Sept. 1 against Tulane in Tiger Stadium. Only 500 tickets remain for the 7 p.m. contest.
SABAN TALKS UP LSU ALUM AND PGA CHAMPION DAVID TOMS
“I was so happy and pleased yesterday that David Toms of LSU, who I have had the pleasure of meeting a couple of times, and is a great guy and supporter, won the PGA event. In the fashion that he won it in was great, even though I did not see it until about midnight last night on SportsCenter. I would just like to congratulate him, and I think it is great for him and his family. He has had some tremendous success this year, and he has a great opportunity now to play for the Ryder Cup this year. I think it is great when LSU people do well. He is one of the classiest guys out there in terms of how he represents himself. The fact that he was a former LSU Tiger — so congratulations to David Toms.”
