BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s basketball player Jermaine Williams will take part in a special overseas basketball tournament beginning August 11 in Tehran, Iran.
Williams, a senior from Baton Rouge, will be part of the Sports Reach team which will be participating in the Third Annual Tournament of Nations. Sports Reach is a sports ministry that is celebrating its 15th anniversary. They have taken teams, men and women, annually to the Middle East, Far East, Europe and South America.
Williams will leave Sunday for Pensacola, Fla., where the team will gather to prepare for the trip. The team leaves for Frankfurt, Germany, on Aug. 8 with the opening ceremonies set for August 11 in Iran. The tournament field besides the American team includes the National Team of Bulgaria, the National Team of Georgia, a team from Yugoslavia, the defending champions from Russia, the junior national team from Germany and two teams from Iran.
“I can’t wait,” said Williams. “I had planned to go to California because I like to get away this time of year and work on my game, but when I was asked I didn’t have to think about it twice. It will be a great experience.”
