Calongne Resigns as Assistant Tennis Coach

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Sally Calongne stepped down from her position as the assistant women’s tennis coach to pursue a career in business administration head coach Tony Minnis announced on Wednesday.

“We are going to miss Sally a lot,” said Minnis. “She was a vital part of our program and it is going to be hard to fill the void that she has left here. The girls really look up to her and she is a great teacher of the game. I hope that she has as much success in the business world that she had here as an assistant coach.”

In four seasons as the assistant coach at LSU, Calongne helped lead the Lady Tigers to four-straight postseason appearances and earned the 2000 Southwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year award. LSU posted a 58-42 overall record during her tenure and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championship tournament in 2000.

Minnis will begin an immediate nation-wide search for a replacement.

The LSU women’s tennis team will begin its fall schedule on September 28, as the Lady Tigers travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the UNLV Invitational.
