Baseball Signs 14th Round Draft Pick

BATON ROUGE — Catcher Jeff Timmons of Nova High School in Davie, Fla., has signed a letter-of-intent with the LSU baseball program. Timmons will enroll at LSU in August, and he will be eligible to play during the 2002 season.

Timmons, a 6-2, 200-pound right-handed hitter, was the 14th round selection of the San Francisco Giants in last month’s Major League Baseball draft. He earned all-state recognition last season at Nova High, batting .477 with six homers and 39 RBI.

In his four-year high school career, Timmons recorded a .457 batting average with 13 homers and 120 RBI.

Timmons is the third drafted player LSU has signed this summer. The others are first baseman Jason Columbus of New Mexico Junior College (Cleveland Indians – 49th round) and outfielder Dustin Hahn of Galena High School in Reno, Nev. (Baltimore Orioles – 21st round).
