Four Softball Tigers Named to All-America Team

BATON ROUGE — Four LSU softball players were honored as 2001 Easton All Americans as announced by the Easton Corporate office. Britni Sneed, Stephanie Hastings, Trena Peel and Dee Douglas all earned this end-of-the-year kudos.

“The awards just keep coming in for this fabulous season,” said head coach Yvette Girourad. “Congratulations to these ladies on this tremendous honor.”

Sneed topped this list with first-team honors after a fairy-tale season. She was named the Southeastern Conference and Louisiana Player of the Year for her tremendous effort in the circle. She hurled 275 2/3 innings and finished the season with a record of 35-6 with a 0.66 earned run average. Sneed set records for LSU and SEC single-season strikeouts with 410.

After moving from second over to shortstop for her senior year, Hastings led the team batting the entire season on her way to earning Second-Team Easton All-America honors. She finished the season with a .372 batting average with 16 doubles, three triples and six home runs. Hastings only struck out eight times in 218 at bats and was one of two unanimous selections to the All-SEC first team.

Peel was named to the Second-Team Easton All-America team after finishing the season second on the team in batting at .337. She was second on the team with nine home runs and led the team with five triples. Peel was second on the team with 22 stolen bases and was named to the All-SEC Second Team.

Douglas earned Third-Team Easton All-American honors after finishing the season with a .325 batting average, which was third best on the team. She led the team with 34 stolen bases and had 152 for her four-year career at LSU.

Easton All Americans are selected from collegiate teams that are sponsored by Easton.
