Sugar Bowl MVP Glenn Smith Dies

BATON ROUGE — Glenn Smith, a two-year member of the LSU football program and the MVP of the 1968 Sugar Bowl, passed away on Monday from complications stemming from an extended illness. Smith was 53.

Smith lettered for the Tigers from 1967-68 and became the first sophomore to win Sugar Bowl MVP honors, as he came off the bench to help the Tigers to a 20-13 victory over Wyoming.

Smith came to LSU from New Orleans where he enjoyed a successful high school career at Holy Cross.

Visitation for Smith will be held at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales on Wednesday from 6-10 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday.
