HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. — LSU senior women’s golfer to be Meredith Duncan continues in her quest to defend her championship with two match play wins Thursday in the 101st Women’s Western Golf Association Amateur Championship.
Duncan is trying to become the first player to win the prestigious women’s amateur event two consecutive years.
Duncan needed 17 holes in her morning match in the round of 32 to down Ria Quiazon, 2 & 1 and then looked to have her round of 16 match with Allie Blomquest pretty much under control with a 3-up advantage after 12 holes. But two Blomquest birdies and a bogey by the Shreveport native tied the match at even with two holes to play.
Duncan would advance to Friday’s quarterfinals with a 1UP victory thanks to a two-putt par on the 18th hole.
Duncan earned first team All-SEC and second team All-American honors during the 2001 golf season for the LSU women’s golf team.
