BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana High School Softball Coaches Association All-Star softball games, scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at LSU’s Tiger Park, have been cancelled due to the heavy rains of the past several days.
This was to have been the second year that the LSU campus and the home of the Women’s College World Series participant LSU Tigers was to have hosted the annual East-West doubleheader.
The LSU softball grounds crew looked at the field Friday morning with the continuing rain and the forecast for Saturday and said it would be impossible to get the field in a safe playing condition for the participants. In addition, along with standing water on the infield, a big hole had developed behind home plate at the fence where water and infield dirt had run off during the deluge, and a large amount of dirt had run off and settled in LSU’s third base dugout.
The teams did gather as a group on Friday and toured some of the campus facilities after their banquet.
The games will not be made up. The campus will next play host to the high school all-stars in volleyball, boys and girls basketball and football in mid-July.
