NORMAN, Okla.– LSU senior golfer Alan Morgan was one of 12 players chosen to represent the United States at the US-Japan Collegiate Golf Championship in Sano-shi, Tochigi, Japan, from July 3-5.
The event will be held at the Verde Sano Country Club. The members of the U.S. squad were announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday. The U.S. team is made up of eight men and four women. They will compete against the Japanese team in a three-day match play tournament.
The eight men were selected by the CGAA All-America committee and the women were chosen by the National Golf Coaches Association. The men will be coached by Arizona Director of Golf Rick LaRose and the women will be coached by Greg Allen, Arizona women’s golf coach.
LaRose led Arizona to a third-place finish at the 2001 NCAA Championships.
Allen lead the Wildcats to the 2000 National Championship, his first season at the school, and guided his team to a number two national ranking this season.
Morgan, a native of Lake Charles, La., led LSU this season with seven top-10 finishes, two individual titles and a stroke average of 71.5. Morgan won medalist honors at the Tennessee Tournament of Champions and the Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate this season. He was named to the All-Southeastern Conference Team’s First Team in 2001, and was named Golfer of the Year on the 2001 LWSA All-Louisiana Team.
Morgan will be joined on the team by Hunter Mahan of Southern Cal, Anthony Arvidson of Oregon State, Rick Barnes of Arizona, Kevin O’Connell of Greensboro College, Bryant Odom of Georgia, Rob Oppenheim of Rollins College, and Nick Watney of Fresno State.
The four women competing are Summer Sirmons of Georgia, Natalie Tucker of Indiana, Natalie Gulbis of Arizona, and Stacy Pramannsudh of Tulsa.
