Sneed, Wiese Named to All-WCWS Team

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — LSU pitcher Britni Sneed and third baseman Julie Wiese were honored Monday by being named to the 2001 Women’s College World Series All-Tournament team following Arizona’s 1-0 championship win over UCLA at the Don Porter Hall of Fame Stadium.

Sneed, a junior and one of four pitchers chosen on the 12-member team selected by media members and tournament officials, had a 1-1 record with one no decision in LSU’s first trip to the WCWS, striking out 31 batters in 24 1/2 innings. She allowed 15 hits and just two earned runs.

Sneed threw over 185 pitches in LSU’s amazing 2-1 win over Oklahoma in 13 innings on Saturday night which put the Tigers into the final four teams of the tournament.

Wiese, a redshirt freshman, had two big hits in the tournament in which she went 4-for-12 at the plate while playing a solid third base for the Tigers. Wiese hit a two-run home run which proved to be the difference in the Iowa game, a 2-1 decision for the Tigers. The home run was her 12th of the season, tying her for the season home run record with former Tiger shortstop Tara Asbill. Wiese also had the RBI hit which tied the Oklahoma game, which would eventually go 13 innings before LSU won.

The Tigers finished 2-2 in the event and in a tie for third with Stanford.
