Men’s Golf Remains in Eighth at SEC Championships

SEA ISLAND, Ga. — The 24th ranked LSU men’s golf team shot a second-round score of 295 Saturday to finish round two of the Southeastern Conference Championships in eighth place.

The Tigers have shot consecutive rounds of 295 at the 2001 Championships held at the Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course. The Tigers 590 total puts them four shots behind seventh place South Carolina. The nation’s number one team, the Georgia Bulldogs, continue their dominance in their home state, shooting a 4-over par 284 Saturday to lead the Championships by 12 shots over Florida.

The Bulldogs are looking for their third SEC title in four years. They claimed the Championship in 1998, and again last season in Killen, Ala. The Bulldogs total of 559 after two rounds is five shots better than their 564 posted in the 2000 Championships. Auburn shot a 283 Saturday, the best score of the day, to finish in third place. Alabama and Tennessee round out the top five.

Georgia’s Bryant Odom leads all individuals after two rounds. He is 3-under par after shooting an even-par 70 Saturday. He shot a first round 67 Friday. Florida’s Camilo Villegas is second, at 1-under par. Tiger senior Alan Morgan followed up Friday’s disappointing 75 with an even-par 70 Saturday. Morgan is in a five-way tie for 16th place, at 5-over par.

Craig Taylor shot a second-round 75 to finish 8-over par and in 28th place. Nathan Goulding is in 32nd place at 9-over par after shooting a 72.

Sophomore John Humphries, LSU’s best finisher Friday, fell from a tie for sixth place to 32nd place with teammate Goulding. Humphries shot a 79 Saturday. Garrett Prather is tied for 53rd place at 15-over par.

The Championships will conclude with the final round beginning Sunday morning.
