BATON ROUGE — The fifth-ranked LSU Tiger softball team prepares to host Kentucky in a three game Southeastern Conference series this weekend at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge.
“We have to come out to play this weekend,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “Kentucky is a dangerous team. They took two of three from South Carolina last week and won the Eastern Division last year. We have to respect their talent.”
“We moved the game times up earlier than baseball and hope that families will make a day of it on the LSU campus. We hope the same enthusiastic crowd shows up that was here for Alabama and like we faced in Lafayette.”
Saturday’s doubleheader starts 11 a.m., and Sunday’s game will begin at noon.
The games will be carried by the LSU Sports Network on 107.3 FM and over the Internet at www.LSUsports.net.
The Tigers are 6-0 against Kentucky all-time. LSU last swept the Wildcats in Tiger Park last year. Britni Sneed only allowed three hits and struck out six in the 2-0 shutout of game one. The Wildcats held the Tigers scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when former-Tiger Shaunte Fremin and Ashley Lewis hit in runs for the victory.
Lewis came in game two and only allowed four hits in the second 7-0 shutout. Stephanie Hastings went three-for-three in game two, scoring two runs. Lewis also had two hits and three RBI.
The Tigers are 39-8 for the season and have a one game lead in the SEC with a record of 18-3.
Kentucky enters the series with a record of 24-24 and 7-12 in the SEC.
LSU will host two mid-week games this week before Ole Miss comes to town for the last home SEC series next weekend. The Tigers play Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and New Mexico State comes to town on Thursday at 6 p.m.
