Men’s Basketball Signs Antonio Hudson

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball office announced Wednesday that it received the national letter-of-intent papers from Antonio Hudson of Grambling, La.

Hudson becomes the Tigers’ second signee of the spring, joining Xavier Wipple of McIntyre, Ga., and gives LSU a combined five signees for the fall and spring signing period.

The 6-foot-5 Hudson averaged 30.3 points per game in leading Grambling Lab School to the Top 28 Tournament and the Class 1A semifinals. He is the first Grambling Lab School graduate to sign with LSU.

Hudson was named the Class 1A Player of the Year and was a member of the All-Northeast Louisiana team as chosen by the Monroe News Star. The high-scoring standout also averaged 9.2 rebounds and 6.5 assists. He is academically qualified for college and carried a 3.7 grade point average at Grambling Lab where he played basketball for Coach Michael Lyons.

Hudson chose LSU over Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Louisiana Tech and Grambling State.

“We are extremely happy with Antonio signing with LSU,” head coach John Brady said. “We felt all along that Antonio was without question, the best high school basketball player in Louisiana last year.

“Antonio comes from a winning program at Grambling Lab School. Michael Lyons is an outstanding coach and we feel that Antonio has an opportunity to come in a play right away. We anticipate Antonio to have an outstanding career, both as a student and athlete, at LSU.”

In the fall, LSU signed three junior college players: 6-7 Kedrick Brown of Okaloosa-Walton Community College, Niceville, Fla.; 6-8 Thomas Davis of Kilgore (Texas) Junior College; and, 6-9 Shawnson Johnson or Lee College (Baytown, Texas).
