BATON ROUGE — Gene Stallings, the former Alabama coach who led the Crimson Tide to the 1992 national championship, will be the featured speaker at LSU’s 2001 Spring Football Coaching Clinic starting Friday on the LSU Campus.
Registration starts at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center with the clinic set to begin at 10:30 a.m. The clinic concludes with the LSU football scrimmage at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Tiger Stadium.
LSU coach Nick Saban will also speak on Friday at the clinic. Saban’s topic will be “A Turnaround Year”.
An annual feature of the clinic is the participation of the Louisiana state champion coaches of the previous season. This year’s participants include Don Shows of 5A state champion West Monroe, Bill Stubbs of 4A state champion Salmen, Lewis Cook of 3A state champion Notre Dame, Steve Fitzhugh of 2A state champion Quachita Christian and Red Franklin of 1A state champion Haynesville.
Other featured speakers include McNeese State offensive coordinator Matt Viator, Chad Morris of Texas 3A champion Bay City, Lee Bramlett of 4A Mississippi State champion McComb and Eric Randall of Louisiana 1A state runner-up Southern Lab.
In addition to Saban, LSU offensive line coach George Yarno will speak on “The Inside Zone”, LSU wide receivers coach Stan Hixon will speak on “LSU Receiver Fundamentals and Drills”, LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher will speak on “The Vertical Passing Game”, LSU defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs will speak on “The Fundamentals of Linebacking Play” and LSU strength and conditioning coordinator Tommy Moffitt will speak on “In-Season/Off-Season Training for the LSU Football Team.”
The remainder of the LSU coaching staff will be available in breakout sessions on Friday.
The registration fee for the clinic is $20, which includes meals.
