Humphries Tied For Second, Men's Golf Ninth in Alabama

Four Tiger Golfers Named to SEC Academic Honor Roll

BATON ROUGE — Four LSU golfers were named to the 2001 Southeastern Men’s Golf Academic Honor Roll, it was announced Tuesday by SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer.

Juniors Michael Beckers and Damon Julian, and Sophomores John Humphries and Chip Lee represent LSU on the list that includes 53 golfers. Beckers and Julian are Baton Rouge natives, and they both attended Catholic High School. Humphries is from Alexandria, while Lee is a Kenner native.

A student-athlete must maintain a 3.0 grade point average in the current year, or for their total career, be at least a sophomore in classification, and must have completed 24 hours of work toward their college degree.

Alabama and Ole Miss topped the 2001 list with seven athletes each. Mississippi State had six players on the list.

The 2001 SEC Championship begins Thursday at Sea Island, Ga. The Tigers finished fifth in the 2000 SEC Championship held in Killen, Ala.
