BATON ROUGE — LSU senior Alan Morgan was named the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week by the SEC, it was announced by the league office on Thursday.
It is the first time Morgan has won the award at LSU. The senior from Lake Charles transferred from South Alabama two years ago, and has become one of the most consistent golfers in the country during his career at LSU. Morgan leads the Tigers with a stroke average of 71.0, seven top-ten finishes and two individual titles. He has played in all 11 tournaments this season.
Morgan finished in a tie for second place at the 2001 Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate last weekend in Opelika, Ala. He shot a 213 and finished 3-under par at the Hitchcock. Morgan preceded that with a third place finish at the Cleveland Golf/ASU Invitational last month in Augusta, Ga.
The Tigers will head to Sea Island, Ga. April 20 to participate in the 2001 SEC Championship. The Tigers finished fifth in the 2000 Championship held in Killen, Ala.
