Women’s Tennis Travels to Face South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The 25th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team looks to garner an important victory in its final road match of the regular season on Wednesday, as the Lady Tigers face Southeastern Conference rival No. 23 South Carolina at 1 p.m. (Central time) here in Columbia, S.C.

“This is a very important match for us at this stage of the season,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “South Carolina is an extremely talented team, and a win tomorrow would help our standing in the post-season because it would be another impact win. We’ve had some really good wins this season and we’ve beaten some tough teams, but this match would definitely help us in the long run.”

The Lady Tigers enter Wednesday’s SEC contest with an overall record of 12-7 on the season and a 3-6 mark against conference opponents. South Carolina also heads into the match with a 12-7 overall record, but the Lady Gamecocks have earned an SEC mark of 6-4 this season.

LSU was dropped on the road by Ole Miss, 5-2, in its previous match, while South Carolina is currently in the midst of a two-match losing streak. In their last two contests, the Lady Gamecocks fell to sixth-ranked Tennessee, 1-6, and seventh-ranked Vanderbilt, 0-6, while on the road in Tennessee.

The Lady Tigers have also been defeated by Tennessee and Vanderbilt this season.

In last season’s match-up, South Carolina edged the Lady Tigers, 5-4, in Baton Rouge at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium to hand LSU its fourth-straight loss of the season. With the win, the Lady Gamecocks improved its overall lead in the all-time series over LSU to 10-1. The Lady Tigers’ lone win of the series was a 5-4 victory in 1984.

The 25th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team will take on the 23rd-ranked South Carolina Lady Gamecocks on Wednesday at 1 p.m. (Central time) in Columbia, S.C.
