BATON ROUGE — LSU softball pitcher Britni Sneed was named the Southeastern Conference and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week following stellar performances against Alabama and Arkansas over the previous week.
“After that performance, I think that she should be the national player of the week,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “She was incredible and completely dominating. Britni showed mental toughness when she came into earn the save against Alabama. There were two runners on base and the meat of their line-up was up. She did an amazing job.”
The junior right-hander led the Tigers to five victories on the week, earning four wins and a save in her six appearances. She is 22-4 for the season and 12-0 in the SEC.
With the shutout of Alabama on Sunday, Sneed set an LSU record for most shutouts in a single season. She hurled four shutouts for the week to run her season total to 11. The previous total of 10 was held by former Tiger Brandi Landry (1997-98).
Sneed did not allow a single run in 32.1 innings of work against Arkansas and No. 3 Alabama and has not allowed a run in over 43 innings of play, dating back to March 31 against Georgia. She earned an ERA of 0.00 for the week, and leads the team with a 0.74 overall ERA in 160.1 innings of work and a 0.24 SEC ERA in 86 innings.
Opposing batters hit .070 against her for the week and are hitting a low .099 against her for the season. Sneed allowed only seven hits in her six appearances over the week, pitching two-one hit and two-two hit complete games. She also struck out 23 Alabama batters in 16 innings of work against the Tide and sat down 45 for the week. Sneed leads the team and the SEC with 244 strikeouts for the season.
