Lady Tigers Tennis Heads to ITA Southwest Regionals

Women’s Tennis Travels To Ole Miss

BATON ROUGE — The 25th-ranked LSU women’s tennis team travels to Oxford, Miss. to face the Ole Miss Lady Rebels at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

LSU comes into the match with a 12-6 overall record, including a 3-5 Southeastern Conference mark. The Lady Tigers are fresh off a 4-3 win over Tulane on Wednesday and have won three straight overall. The Lady Rebels are 7-10 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

“We have played some good tennis in our last three matches and we just need to keep the momentum going against Ole Miss,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “They are going to be a tough team to beat at their home place, but I am pretty confident in the way we are playing and hopefully we can step up and get a win.”

Junior Bruna Colosio, who moved up to No. 9 in the WingspanBank.com College Tennis Rankings on Friday, leads LSU. She is 14-2 at No. 1 singles. Colosio teams up with freshman Rocio Fantilli to form the 14th-ranked doubles team in the nation.

Ole Miss is led by sophomore Julie DeRoo, ranked 35th nationally, and sophomore Mira Radu, ranked No. 96. The duo is ranked 30th in the country in doubles. DeRoo has won three in a row and four of her last five matches.

LSU and Ole Miss have squared off 23 times with Lady Rebels leading the series 14-9. Ole Miss has won nine straight in the series, including last year’s 6-0 win in Baton Rouge. The last time the two teams played in Oxford in 1999, a 5-4 Ole Miss victory.
