Softball Takes on Arkansas in Mid-Week SEC Series

BATON ROUGE — The seventh ranked LSU softball team returns home following a 10-day Spring Break road trip to play host to the Lady’Backs of Arkansas in a three-game Southeastern Conference series in Tiger Park with a double header on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and a single game on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

“We are excited to be home in Tiger Park again,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “We saw some great things from the girls over the road trip and can’t wait to see what they can do here at home. We know that we have a tough week ahead of us and are gearing up for the challenge. It’s exciting.”

All three games of the series will be carried by the LSU Sports Network on 107.3 FM and over the internet at www.LSUsport.net. College Sports Southeast will televise Tuesday’s double header on a tape delay basis on Baton Rouge channel 18 Wednesday at 11 a.m. and Thursday at 7 p.m. Wednesday’s contest will be televised by the Pelican Sports Network also on tape delay.

The Tigers lead the series with Arkansas 18-2 over the last four years. LSU last swept a four-game series against the Razorbacks in Baton Rouge and later defeated them 2-0 in the SEC Tournament.

The Tigers hit six home runs against Arkansas in the five games of 2000.

Britni Sneed pitched two games allowing only three hits and striking out 13 in 14 innings. Ashley Lewis pitched three shutouts against the Lady’Backs and hit two of the Tiger home runs. Junior Trena Peel hit two of the blasts out of Tiger Park also.

LSU enters the series with a record of 30-6 overall and 10-2 in the SEC. The Tigers return home following a three-game sweep of Georgia. Freshman Julie Wiese became the fifth Tiger to hit two home runs in a single game against the Bulldogs on Saturday and added a third for the day with a blast in game two of the double header. Wiese leads the Tigers with nine home runs for the season.

Arkansas enters the games with a record of 21-19 overall and 5-7 in the SEC.

The Lady’Backs recently salvaged one game of a three game series with a 1-0 win over Florida on Sunday.

There will be free Tiger license plate frames to the first 100 people in attendance for Tuesday’s game.

LSU will face the fourth ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday and Sunday in a three-game series at Tiger Park. Free tickets to Sunday’s game are available at all area Winn-Dixie’s.
