AUGUSTA, Ga.– The 17th ranked LSU men’s golf team is tied for fourth place after two rounds at the Cleveland Golf/ASU Invitational, held at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
The Tigers share the lead with Georgia Southern University. The Tigers shot a first round 287, and followed that with a score of 284 for a total of 571 for the day. The 284 was the Tigers lowest score since the second round of the LSU Spring Invitational in Baton Rouge March 5-6. The Tigers shot a 281 there and went on to win the tournament by five strokes.
Senior Alan Morgan rebounded from a 49th place finish last weekend at the Schenkel Invitational on Saturday, placing in a tie for fifth with two other golfers. Morgan posted scores of 68-70 for a 138 total. The 68 gives Morgan 10 rounds under 70 for the season. He leads the team with four top-10 finishes this season.
North Carolina State is tied for the lead after shooting 284-279 for a total of 563. Wake Forest is tied with N.C. State for first, followed by host Augusta State in third. The Tigers and Georgia Southern round out the top five.
Oliver Wilson of ASU is at the top of the leader board after one day. Wilson shot a 70 in the first round and then topped that with an incredible 65 in the second round. LSU’s Nathan Goulding is tied for 18th place, and Humphries is tied for 23rd. Craig Taylor is 34th, and Billy Dressler is 70th.
The tournament is comprised of 11 teams currently ranked in the top 50 by Mastercard. N.C. State, the current leaders are the nation’s number nine team. Host school Augusta State is 10th. The Panthers of ASU are attemptingto win consecutive ASU Invitationals.
The Tigers will look to win their fourth tournament of the season Sunday when they play the final 18 holes.
