Colosio Jumps to 23rd in Tennis Rankings

Lady Tiger Tennis Picks Up Third SEC Win, 5-2

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team broke a three-match Southeastern Conference losing streak with a strong 5-2 victory over Arkansas Sunday afternoon at the “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.

The Lady Tigers won four singles matches and the doubles point to raise their record to 12-6 overall and 3-5 in the league. Arkansas drops to 7-9 overall and 1-7 in the conference, losing for the sixth straight time in the league. LSU plays at Tulane in New Orleans in its next match on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

LSU junior Bruna Colosio won the battle of two top 25-ranked national players in defeating the Lady Backs’ Chin Bee Khoo in the number one singles match. Colosio, ranked 23rd in the nation, easily captured the final set against the 19th-ranked Khoo and won 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

For Colosio, the win was her 10th straight and her 20th in 22 matches this year. She is a perfect 7-0 in SEC play.

Also winning in singles for LSU were: sophomore Lauren Haddix in number 3 singles, rallying from a set down to win 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 over Youlia Boyadjieva. LSU’s Tami Botts and Fernando Tsucamoto were straight set winners.

Earlier, the team of Colosio and Rocio Fantilli and Tuscamoto and Amy McIlhaney each won doubles matches for the Tigers to get the doubles point to give LSU a 1-0 lead in the match.

“I’m very pleased with the way the team played this afternoon,” said LSU coach Tony Minnis. “That was a strong overall performance that we hope to carry over into our road matches this week at Tulane and Ole Miss.”
