No. 17 Men’s Tennis Conntinues Road Swing at USC

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The 17th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team remains on the road against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday, as the Tigers compete in their third-straight road match here at the Sam Daniel Tennis Stadium in Columbia, S.C.

“South Carolina has a very tough singles lineup,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “It’s one of the best in the Southeastern Conference, and we are going to have to take advantage of some of the match-ups that we should win. There are a couple of singles matches where we should be favored and those will be vital for a win.”

LSU heads into Sunday’s dual-match contest with an overall record of 12-4 and a 5-3 mark against conference opponents. The Tigers edged Florida, 4-3, late Friday night in Gainesville, Fla., as the match was delayed three hours due to rain. With the win, LSU earned an even 2-2 record in road contests this season. The Tigers were also victorious over Arkansas, 4-3, earlier in the season.

The Gamecocks enter the vital SEC battle against LSU with a 9-6 overall record and a conference mark of 2-4. South Carolina lost its previous-twomatches versus both Ole Miss and Georgia. The Gamecocks fell to Ole Miss, 2-4, on the road in Oxford, Miss., and were blanked by Georgia, 0-5, in Athens, Ga.

In last season’s annual match-up between the two schools, the Tigers swept South Carolina at home in the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium by a score of 7-0. LSU leads the all-time series with an overall record of 17-3, and the Tigers have been victorious in the last 14 contests. The Gamecocks haven’t won a match against LSU since 1989, when South Carolina topped the Tigers, 3-5.

The 17th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team is set to face the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday at noon here in Columbia, S.C.
